During the summer of 2015, Appalachian faculty and staff made the successful move to Google Apps for Education. The new levels of collaboration between colleagues and faculty with their students using Google mail, calendar, docs and drive has been extraordinary.

In order to continue taking advantage of what Google has to offer our campus, we have worked to streamline and reduce the amount of daily email delivered to your inboxes. Our campus values the sense of community that comes from sharing information about upcoming events, resources and campus announcements, but many feel the volume of email generated to support this communication has grown to an undesirable level.

All faculty and staff will be part of the group, Campus News and Events, to share information relevant to all faculty and staff, including:

  • Lectures and events of widespread interest 
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Special events and other information relevant to the university’s mission

Messages will be moderated. By default, these messages will be sent in a single daily digest email.

Faculty and staff can also join Special Topic groups dedicated to different areas of Appalachian including: The Arts, Athletics, Conferences and Camps, Faculty Announcements, Food Services, Global Engagement, Health Promotion, Research, Staff Announcements and Sustainability.
